Pine Lake Again
Campfires, Pancakes, and Two Very Happy Campers: A SkyDog Weekend at Pine Lake
Addie squared
There’s something special about introducing the next generation to the rhythms of campground life—the slow mornings, the muddy shoes, the laughter that carries just a little farther in the open air. Our recent trip to Pine Lake RV Resort was exactly that kind of early season stay… simple, full, and just the right amount of messy.
This time, the stars of the show were Addison and Adaline.
From the moment we rolled in, they were ready to help with camp setup. Addison won the coin flip and elected to help Terri with the inside setup. Adaline helped me with the outside. Both learned that before you can run out and play in the lake, you have to setup your camp.
Lake Days and Playground Adventures
Pine Lake never disappoints. The girls made a beeline for the water, where exploring quickly became the main event. There’s something about a lake that invites curiosity—rocks to skip (or sink), tiny fish darting along the shoreline, and just enough mystery to keep young adventurers fully engaged.
I brought out a fishing rod soon after. Now, fishing doesn’t always mean catching, and the afternoon wind didn’t help. Still, fishing beats not fishing every time and catching had to wait until the following morning with the wind down and the lake quiet.
When the two girls weren’t lakeside, the park's community area and playground became their second home base. Endless energy, and the kind of freedom that only a campground can offer. This is the stuff childhood memories are made of.
Camp breakfast
Camp Breakfasts Done Right
Of course, no SkyDog trip is complete without leaning into one of our favorite traditions: big camp breakfasts.
We’re talking pancakes on the griddle, bacon sizzling, sausage doing its thing, morning air still cool, and the kind of unhurried pace you just don’t get at home. A camp breakfast is the best way to fuel Addison and Adaline for a long day of camping experiences.
The Legend of Taco Mac
And then… there was dinner.
“Taco Mac” made its triumphant appearance, and if you know, you know. It’s one of those meals that sounds simple but delivers big comfort food with a campfire twist. How can you go wrong with a one-pot meal of ground beef, taco seasoning, Sloppy Joe sauce, and elbow mac. It’s safe to say Taco Mac earned a permanent spot in future trip menus.
Great Friends Become New Campers
One of the unexpected joys of the weekend was sharing the camping experience with our dear friends, Ken and Wendy Healy. They are first-time RV renters diving headfirst into campground life. There’s always a little learning curve on that first trip, and they had us to lean on for tips on everything from utility hook ups on arrival to tank dumps on departure. Of course they brought their wonderful, deaf, Dalmatian, Thomas to keep them company. Addie-squared loved to help them walk Thomas to the dog park following the campground maps that they never seemed to be without.
Ken, Wendy and Thomas embraced the experience fully, and we think they’re looking forward to future RV adventures. Here’s to hoping they join the cult… ‘er club and join us on future road trips.
All in all it was a great three-day excursion, at the beginning of the season. We seemed to have the campground all to ourselves. Addison and Adaline got a full dose of lake life, playground adventures, and campfire living. We got the joy of watching it all through their eyes and honestly, that’s the best part of any trip.
Until the next adventure…
